The first conference on preservation of the environment of the Far North “Yamal ecological conference” will be held in Russia on the 23^rd – 24^th of November 2011.

This conference will be held in Novy Urengoy, which is situated in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of Russia. The biggest volume of gas reserves is concentrated in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, which is situated in Arctic, in the Far North. The city Novy Urengoy built on permafrost is called “gas capital of Russia”. Exactly here in gas treatment facilities gas is produced, treated and transported into the European countries through the largest pipeline in the world.

The Jamal ecological conference is aimed to preservation of tundra-ecosystem, strengthening of ecological safety of Arctic shore, application of advanced technologies in the Far North promoting the preservation of natural resources, application of innovation developments on control, utilization, waste treatment and disposal, exchange of knowledge and skills.

The program for participants of Yamal ecological conference will include scientific-practical conference on environmental safety in the Far North, panel discussion of ecological problems of the Far North and Arctic, problems of development of oil and gas deposits of the Arctic shelf, presentation of the activities of big companies and organizations of YaNAO in the area of the preservation of the environment, visit of gas treatment facility, excursion into the tundra to the Polar Circle, the participation in the Yamal innovation forum “Innovations for a man and nature”, visit of exhibition-presentation of developments of scientific and innovation centers of Russian Federation and the exhibitions “Medicine, health saving technologies to the inhabitants of the Far North.

The following topics are suggested for discussion at the conference:

1. The main problems of environmental safety in Yamal and the ways of their solving.

2. Cooperation of state nature conservation organizations, non-governmental organizations and oil and gas producing companies.

3. Innovation activities in the area of environmental safety of the enterprises and organizations carrying out their activities in the Arctic.

4. Ecological safety of technologies and productions in the Far North.

5. Modern innovation methods and technological solutions of the Far North ecosystems preservation.

6. Economic aspects in the area of environmental safety.

The development of gas fields on the Arctic shelf is the main strategic task of energy safety for the nearest decades for many countries. The maintenance of ecological equilibrium during the development of gas fields allows to create there new productions exclusively on the base of new technologies corresponding to the highest ecological requirements, because the ecosystem of the Far North is very pollution-sensitive and vulnerable. The participation in the ecological conference is a unique possibility to meet the representatives of big oil and gas producing companies, ecological non-governmental organizations, statesmen and journalists.

The representatives of government bodies of Russian Federation, of the administrations of the Far North regions, the leading experts of environmental branch, scientists, representatives of enterprises, organizations and educational institutions of Tyumen region are invited.
